An advantage of EFD cores is the ability to design low-profile, compact transformers using traditional machine winding techniques based on this core shape. The low height of finished transformers and chokes ensures good mechanical stability for winding products based on EFD cores.

This design allows for easy integration in assemblies, especially when used with coil formers for surface mounting.

To meet increasing demands for higher power density and output current, an extended range of planar ferrite cores is available. This includes the standard ELP core series and an expanded series with round center posts, such as EQ 13 to EQ 30 and ER 9.5 to ER 32, offering enhanced design flexibility for custom power converters. These cores can be tailored to specific height and air gap requirements and are made from well-known power materials suitable for various frequency ranges and temperatures.
